I love chile with all my heart

Hey family well this is the last time that i am going to write you as a missionary. I am not going to lie, it is very very hard to leave this country. I love chile with all my heart. I can say that i am chilean!! Well it has been a good week. It has been a little hard cause i have been pretty sick the last couple days. I dont know why, i think it is because i am nevous. It is like entering the mtc all over again. I have no clue what is going to happen and i am scared out of my mind to face the real world. But i am up to the challenge. If i can be away from my family and friends and serve others for 2 years, everything else should be easy. I have loved every second of my time here in chile. I would not change anything. Well i am really excited and scared to see you guys it is going to be awesome.

One quick thing that happened this week. Here in chile there are these gas trucks that drive around to drop off gas at peoples houses. The drivers carry a lot of money so it is a very dangerous job. Well 2 days ago at the corner of where we live one of the trucks got attacked by a armed 19 year old kid. The driver was parked in front of his own house and the kid told him to get out. The guy put up resistance and so the kid shot him. When the wife and children heard that, they came out in time to see the kid shoot their dad again and again... the kid took off in the truck and left a wife and 3 little girls without a dad.

So obviously it is going to be hard for them cause they dont have money or any way to earn money so the family and friends were doing a little money drive for the family. Yesterday we went over to a coverts house, her name is alin, to say goodbye to them. The convert is 10 years old and was friends with one of the little girls whose dad had died. The mom of alin told us that when alin found out that her friends dad had died she went into her room and broke open her piggy bank and gave the money to her friend. She had been saving up to buy some shoes or something but she said that her friend needed the money more. When i heard that i started bawling like a little girl. I could not believe the sacrifice, the pure love of Christ that this little 10 year old girl had. No wonder the Lord tells us that we must be like children. It is people like alin that give me hope for this world.

Well family i love you tons. I am way excited to see ya. I hope that i will be able to recognize you guys cause i am sure that you have changed a lot. I will leave you guys with my testimony. I know that God lives. He really is our loving heavenly father. He wants us to come back and live with Him again. Because of that, he sent his only begotten son, Jesus Christ to suffer and die for us. Jesus is the Christ, the Savior and Redeemer of the world. Without Christ we have nothing but darkness. I know that through Him i can be free of sin and death. I know that through Him i can live with my family again. Joseph Smith saw God the Father and His son Jesus Christ and was the Prophet who restored the gospel upon the earth. The Book of Mormon is such a powerful book. It really is the word of God. How i have come to love it here on the mission. We can learn so much by reading and studying it daily. We can find out who the Lord Jesus Christ really is. That is my testimony and nothing in the world can take it from me. I love you all more than you can ever know. Have a awesome couple days before i see you. Till we meet again.

got to see Elder Hollister!

Hey fam well right now you guys are freezing cold i am being cooked to a crisp. It is so hott down here i can barely concentrate. So if things dont make sense or i just randomly stop that is why. Christmas down here is like living in heck with a tree and lights haha. It is very hott and the sun is very very strong. One of the things i am the most happy to see is snow, and of course all you guys haha. Life is good.

Well this has been a good week. You wrote me last week and said to be looking out for elder hollister, well i found him...in my zone haha. It is sweet, he has changed a lot since the last time i got to see him. He is taller than me and very mature. It was fun to see him and be able to talk to him. He is doing good but is really nervous. He still doesnt understand very much spanish but he will get the hang of it soon. He is a good elder and will have a awesome mission. He has a really good trainer even thought he is a utah fan...but its ok i am sure that grant will be able to convert him. His trainer lost a bet with me over the byu utah game and had to buy me a hot dog right in front of elder hollister...haha oh sweet sweet victory. I love life haha

Well landon and mehkii i hope you guys have a good bday and everyone i hope you all have a good christmas. I will be able to call you guys and see what is going on. We will call either the 24th or 25th. We are still not sure but we will let you guys know. Write me and tell me when would be the best to call.

Other than that this has been a very good week. We have been able to see many miracle and tender mercies from the lord. One was really funny. We were just walking along and all the sudden my comp needed to use the bathroom really really bad. Well we were in a area of our sector when we didnt have investigators and not very many members live there. So i was trying to think really fast of where we could go. Then for some reason i thought that we should go to this members house where we normally never go. So we run over there and go inside and my comp is able to use their bathroom. After we are just sitting there and we ask them if they know anyone that we could teach. The mom was like ya we do, wait a sec. She goes into the other room and comes out with her daugter and her daugters boyfriend who just happens that he is not a member and wants to know more. So we taught him and yesterday he went to church. So that was so cool. The lord works in very misirous ways, i dont know how to spell. But it was so awesome, so he is really interested and i am sure that he will be baptized soon.

Also this week we had a meeting as zone leaders with the president in his house in this really rich area. To get there we have to take a bus, go on the subway, change cars on the subway then take another bus. So it takes a long time. So we went in the morning and had the meeting, which by the way was incredible. Then after all the zone leaders go on a bus together to get back to our sectors. So there is this bus, full of people and we decided that we are going to give them a little bit of the christmas spirit cause they all looked depressed and sad. So we started singing christmas songs, all 22 of us. It was sweet by the time we got off the bus everyone was so much happier. So we got onto the subway and we decided to do the same. So we started singing and handing out pass along cards and it was awesome. I think that people really enjoyed it and if they didnt at least we did. Haha i love the christmas spirit, it is a gift from God.

Well i am buring up and i need to go so i will stop writting. But have a awesome week. Next pday i will be saying goodbye to all my converts all day long so i dont know if we will have time to write you guys or not next week. I will try but if i dont, dont freak out cause that is why i cant. I love you all so much. Thanx for writting me and supporting me. Have a awesome week. Keep on doing the small things.

I love ya

wickedness never ever was happiness!!!

hey fam ya its been a really good week. i have been getting sick a lot lately i dont know why but whatever i just keep working. the weather down here keeps getting hotter and hotter. man summer here is heck. but ya its so cool that you guys have snow, man i miss the snow so much. but ya, it has been a really normal week.

one thing happened that tore me apart. we went to this converts house to teach them and we have tried to find then for like the last 3 weeks. it has been hard but finally we did it. it is a mom and her 2 daughters, nicole and alin. nicol is 15 and alin is 10. (by the way alin is the cutest little girl i have ever seen in my whole life. i might have to bring her home with me haha. anyways, they havent gone to church in like 2 or 3 months cause the mom works and she does other things...anyways, when nicole was baptized she left behind a bunch of not good friends and started chilling with the kids in the ward. then little by little she stopped reading the scriptures and didnt go to church very often. then she got back together with her old friends and got a boyfriend. so she kept telling us and her mom that she was fine and that she could control her life. so we went by this past week and her mom told us with tears streaming down her face that nicole is 1 1/2 months pregnant... it broke my heart. she is only 15 years old and a good girl. now she is waiting for a baby and guess what happened to the guy, who "was so in love with her..." he is gone, when he found out that she was pregnant he took off, freaking idiot. ya well now nicole is not doing well. she has a child and the love of her life is gone. now her whole life is going to change and she is not going to be able to live her life like a little chile, which she is, should. she can barely take care of herself and now she has to take care of another person.

and you see this a lot here in chile, the youth here are so bad. you see little girls who are like 12, 13 years old walking around in barely nothing. there are drugs and cigarets everywhere. satan has a good graps over this world. but that is why i am here. that is why there are young men and women all over the world with the lord´s name on their chest to bring the world the good news of great joy. without the church of Jesus Christ this world is (sorry mom for the language) screwed. without the message that we have there is no hope. that is what moses was talking about in the pearl of great price when he says that "he saw satan with chains that when all around the world, and he looked up and laughed and his angels rejoiced"... that is why the church is so important. people think that the world is so much fun, but that is bull crap. wickedness never ever was happiness!!! you can not have happiness in the world, only through Christ.

that is why i am so gratefull to be a member of His church. He is in charge of it and with Him in charge we cannot lose. i love the people of chile so so much. i know what i have will help them. and that is why i walk around all day in the heat. that is why i keep on talking to people even when they reject me over and over again. and if they dont believe me at least they know that i know it is true. what a blessing it is to be able to have the gospel of Jesus Christ in our lives. i am so thankful to know the truth.

i know this church is true, nothing anyone could ever say could change it. i know God lives, that Jesus is my savior. I know that through Him, I can live with my family forever. i know the book of mormon is the word of God. It is so powerful, i love it. we can find out who Christ really was though that book. i love you all so much. i hope you all have a awesome week. please dont let satan win. do the small things. always be obedient to the commandments and to the prophet and leaders of the church. obedience is so important, we dont even understand how important it is. it gives us so much power. just do it!!!

i love you all tons

"no one here believes in God..."

yo fam what up?? haha im trying to get back into my getto language stage hows it goin??? man first off i am pretty mad that i missed out on the byu game it sounds like it was amazing. it was so funny cause saturday night we got home, planned for the next day and all the sudden our cell phone rings. i look at it and it says, "president jones." so i am freakin out tryin to think of what i did wrong or if he is going to change me to a different sector... so i answer it and it is his wife, hermana jones. first off she is so awesome, she is obsessed with all sports so anytime we want to know anything about the sport world we just ask her. so she just called to tell me who won in the byu game. i was so happy when i found out that byu won. it totally made my day. so i was pretty happy. Go cougs!!!!

so ya it has been a really good week. we have been working hard and trying our hardest to find the chosen who are ready to accept us. so this week we taught this convert, who we have helped get reactivaded, we taught her the importance of missionary work. so what did she do, she went out and found us this lady that she wants us to visit. it was awesome. so we go over and she comes out and is like "no one here believes in God..." so we are just like, ok we just want to share a message about the family. so she is like, "ok come in you got 10 minutes..." well that 10 minutes turned into 45 minutes. we found out that she has depression really bad and has tried killing herself like 10 times. she said that the drugs that the doctors give her are not working and that she needs something else (the restored gospel!!!) we taught her about the love of God and prayed with her and it was awesome. at the end she was like, "i want to go to your church." then i pulled out a book of mormon and left her with 3rd nephi 11 where christ comes. usually we have to get down on our hands and knees and plead for the people to read cause chileans dont like to read. so as i was bending over to start pleading she asks, "after i get done with this chapter, can i start reading from the beggining??" haha i told her of course not that would be way too miraculous. so it was so awesome, we are going by tonight to see how it went.

besides that it was a pretty normal week, teaching people, walking around, getting sick haha the regular. on thanksgiving day we were invited to this ladys house who lived in the usa for a couple years. here they dont celebrate thanksgiving, im just throwing that out there cause every single one of you guys asked me haha. but anyways, we have a nice little thanksgiving lunch and then she comes out with these slices of pumpkin pie... oh man we were in heaven. im sure she may be the only person here in chile that even knows what a pumpkin pie is. anyways it was sweet.

but ya life is good, just doing my thing down here. next week is changes so i am praying that they dont take me out and they just let me die here. but ya only time will tell. but ya i love you all tons. cant wait to see ya. i love the Lord so much. i love this church and i know that it is true. thanx for everything fam.

daisy got baptized

hey fam how is life going. everything here is awesome. i am loving life even though it is so hott!!! man the heat has hit and it came with a vengance. but its all good, i am excited to get back to the snow and be able to enjoy the cold. we have had a really good week. we are finding a lot of cool people to teach and it is all good. today we went to a hill called the santa lucía and it was fun. it is right in the middle of the city and over looks everything so it was cool.

also this week daisy got baptized as you could see in the pics that i sent ya. she is so awesome and the baptizm went really well. between us 4 missionaries, we had 8 investigators in the baptizm. so it was good, almost the same number of members...kinda sad but its all good. it doesnt matter who goes cause the lord is there with his angels. but ya it was fun to be the one who baptized her. she is such a good girl, and has completely changed her life around. also she is helping her family to come unto the church so that is awesome. so the work is progressing here in chile. i am still shocked at how little time i have left. it goes by way to fast, i am trying to work harder and harder but it just keeps going by faster and faster the harder i work. there is nothing i can do to slow it down. but it is all good, i will just try to work my hardest to the last second. i love being a missionary, it is so challenging but so rewarding. thanx for all that you guys do. i love you all so much. have a awesome week.

hey fam these are pics of daisy´s baptizm. it went really well. she is so awesome, and she got really emotional when she came up out of the water. also her mom felt the spirit really strongly and i believe that she will be baptized here soon. wow the miracles that go on

hey fam these are pics of my and my son elder bennett at a huge hill called santa lucía. also one is of me and my desendants. me elder burgos (my grandchild), elder bennett (my comp right now) and elder maldonado, (my first son) haha so i have lots of children and soon hope to have a great grandchild haha. well love the mission, its awesome. have a good one

I look over and who do i see? Sister Laycock

Hey fam how is it goin? I love getting letters from you guys you are so awesome. Well everything thing here is going incredible. We had a really good week. I love my son elder bennett he is so awesome, he has the funniest humor. We are just working hard and trying to find the chosen of the Lord. We are trying to use our time well so that my sons feet can get better but at the same time so we are working to our full capasity. It is hard cause our sector is really big and just to get to it take ten minutes of walking but we are doing fine.

So this week we went into the doctors to see what they could do for elder bennetts feet and the doctor works in the office building of the church were also the santiago east mission is. So we go in and we are walking towards the doctors office and i look over and who do i see? Sister laycock just sitting there making copies of something haha. It was so trunky. She freaked out when she saw me and almost gave me a hug haha. She was way excited. She told me that mom always talked about me, how long i was out and how i was doing. She said that her and president are doing well and just loving life. So ya it was really fun to see her and find out how everything was going.

Also a couple days ago we had a kinda hard day where we didnt get into any houses. So we decided to start knocking doors and try to get in. So we knock this door and no one comes out so we keep on walking and all the sudden we hear, “hey you guys, were are you from???” so here in chile everyone wants to try out the little english that they know so we are used to that but this time it was said in a perfect acent. So we turn around and what do you know, there are 2 gringas (2 girls from the states for thoes of you who dont know what a gringa is). So we go over and start talking to them and find out they are from washington and california. So they asked us what we were doing and why we were here in chile and so we explained a little about missionary work. Then we told them we wanted to teach them more. One of them said, “ok lets go to this sweet sushi place, ill pay...” haha i wont lie i was pretty tempted, cause i love sushi and i havent had it in like 2 years. But i explained to them that we couldnt go on dates in the mission but we wanted to share a message with them in their house. Then they said that they wanted to know right then and there what we taught... so we ended up teaching the restoration and the word of wisdom and prophets and baptizm and a lot of other stuff for like 30 minutes in the street. It was sweet but way hard cause i have not had to teach the gospel in english like my whole mission. So i kept on coming to words that i couldnt remember for the life of me what they were in english. But it was awesome so we are going back this week to visit them and see how everything is going. Also yesterday we were just walking along and another girl from the states came up and started talk to us. It is so weird, i havent seen so many people from the states before in my mission. Whatev...

But ya all is good. Daisy passed her baptizmal interview yesterday so she will be baptized this Saturday. She chose me to baptize her so that is going to be awesome. I am way excited for her and this step she is going to take. She is a awesome young lady and is going to be a good example for her family.

Ya well i love you all tons. Hope you have a good week. Keep on praying for me and my investigators. Do the small things that you all know you should (read the scriptures, pray, go to church all three meetings and serve others) and you will be blessed more than you know.

Love ya tons

Hey mom thanx so so much for always supporting. i love you so much. you are so awesome and i am thankful for all that you have done for me. me training really helped me realize how much parents give up for their kids. it is different in the mission i know, its not that intense but you still have to sacrifice yourself to help your children. i am so thankful for all that you do. you are awesome. i hope you know how much i love you. you have always been one of my best friends and i know that you are a angel sent from heaven to help me. have a awesome week mom. love ya tons.

My comp got a bunch of blisters his first day

Hey family how is it going. Life here in chile is going awesome. We have had a really good week. We worked really hard and we have found a lot of new people who want to hear us. Also i dont know if i already told you guys but last week we got a reference from the mtc in utah and the brother is serving a mission in argentina. Well they are awesome and we are working with them a lot cause they have tons of questions about what there brother is doing and why he is in argentina.

But also this week has been kinda hard. My comp got a bunch of blisters his first day here and so it has been hard for him to walk. We have been trying our best to plan it out so we dont have to walk very much but also so we can get alot done. We have had to stay in like 2 days this week so that has sucked but we are doing our best. I just feel really bad cause our sector is huge and we have to walk alot. And my comp walks like a little old grandpa cause i am sure his feet are killing him but he just keeps going. He is so awesome i love my kid haha.  me and my son elder bennett. he is from washington but his family lives now in provo utah.

But ya besides that we are doing really well. Just working and trying to stay focused on the work. There are some times when thoughts come into my mind about what i have to do after the mission and how it is going to be like working and going to school and dating and all that stuff and i get freaked out. Haha i dont want to go back home, i am not ready to get married haha. But i try to block out thoes thoughts but it is hard some times.  also my mission president, president jones, wresting in a lidership meeting. sweet!!!!

There is this girl in the other side of our ward (we share the ward with the other missionaries. I dont know if you guys remember that my sector got split in half like 2 months ago.) anyways this girls name is daisy. She is so awesome. We started teaching her like 4 months ago but she didnt want much with us, her mom was more interested. So after the sector got split i wasnt able to go visit them anymore so i lost contact with them. Then 2 weeks ago they came to church and this past Sunday as well. So now the daughter daisy, wants to get baptized. Yesterday we were able to go over and see her and she told up that she knew the church was true and wanted to be baptized. She said that in one of the lessons that i taught her she felt the spirit really strong and desided to read and pray. She finallly got her answer and now will be baptized in 2 weeks. It is so incredible how even when you dont realize the impact you have, you can have a huge one on the lifes of other people. I love this work so much.

We can see so many people change their lives. It has been the hardest but more rewarding thing on earth. I am so gratefull for the time i have been able to spend in the service of my Lord and Savior. And thanks to you guys for supporting me and always helping me along. I love you all so much. Have a awesome week. Keep on keeping.

Love

Elder hall

PS. ok one thing you guys could do is maybe buy some stuff for one of my converts who is going to serve a mission. she is from a poor family and they could use some help. so maybe you could buy her some stuff for the mission and buy some stuff for the little kids in her family so that they could have a better christmas. it is a mom who is like 45, maricela is 20, and 3 sons who are 15, 5 and 3. so just think about it and let me know next week to maybe give you more details. also i will keep on thinking about what you could do. also about the nativity sets, i think you wanted on, and g-ma lam wanted one too. but i have no money left in my personal account so if you guys want one just put some money in and let me know. but you gotta do it in the next week cause i am going to this place where there is a big selection and i will be able to find a cool one. well love ya tons. have a awesome week.

i was asked to be a...trainer again

Hey family how is life going. Here all is well, we are doing well. So as you know my comp left and i am still in my old sector. So Monday night i got a call from the mission president and i was asked to be a...trainer again. Haha so i was freaking out. But ya i accepted and i got my new comp this past wendsday. His name is elder bennett. He is awesome, he is from seatle washington. He is so cool, we get along really well. But i have been really nervious cause it is hard to train a new missionary. But we are just working hard and seeing lots of miracles. He speaks spanish pretty well for not having very much time in chile but he doesnt understand anything. So i am his translator for now haha. It is good cause it is helping my spanish alot cause i always have to talk and translate things from spanish to english. But ya i am just loving life. We are going to have lots of success together, i just hope that i can finish his training which would mean that i would die here in my sector. I would love that so much, it would stink to get changed out of this sector with just 3 weeks left.

So for halloween there were a lot more people in the streets this year than last year. It was fun to see all the little kids dressed up in all kinds of different things. I realized that chilean children are so cute, and when i see little kids it makes me want to have a kid haha. (I know that is a trunky thought but it does.) but ya so halloween night we were walking back to the house and it takes about 20 minutes to get back from where we were. So me and my kid were talking and all the sudden these little kids who were probably 5 or 6 come up and start attacking us. They say (dulce o atravesura) or trick or treat and they wanted us to give them candy. Well we didnt have any candy with us but we did have pass along cards... haha so we gave them pass along cards with christ on the front. Most of them took it but one or two little punks didnt want one. I kicked them... no jk but it was kinda sad. But ya it was funny, i just hope they call and get a free dvd that would be sweet haha.

Also yesterday we had a appointment with this reference that we got from the MTC in provo (which never ever happens) so we went at 4 to go visit them. We get there and knock and knock and knock but there is no one. So i was kinda down and we werent able to get into any other houses so i was kinda sad. So at 8 we decided to go back and try and we knocked and they were home. So we went in and they are awesome. It is a dad and his daugter who is 14 years old. There names are jaime and macarena. So it turns out that there brother/son is on a mission in argentina and he sent their reference here cause macarena had interest. So they are awesome and we are going to start working hard with them. So that was a huge miracle that we were able to see. Anyways i love the mission. We are doing well. I am just trying to work my butt off and set a good example for my son, elder bennett. Its awesome cause with him i totally forget that i have only 2 months left and we just work. So time is flying by and i am not trunky at all. I am just trying to finish off strong and hopefully we will be able to help a lot of people here. I love you all tons. Have a awesome week.

an investigator that we had died

Hey fam hows it goin?? Haha sounds like you all have had a good calm week. As for me i had a good week. I was a little sick this week again but its all good. I am really sick of being sick haha. But thats how the mission is. So this week an investigator that we had died. Her name was irene. She had been in bed for like a year and a couple months. She was a reference from a member and was so interested in the gospel. She had already accepted all that we taught her but she could not get up from her bed. She said that the day she could that she would go to the church. But slowly she got worse and this past Tuesday she passed away. She was so awesome but she just didnt have time. So i am sure that she has already accepted her baptizm in the other world and is just going to wait for a year so that her work can be done for her. There is a member here who will do it, she had taken care of irene for the past year. So all wendsday we were in the chapel for the funeral. Here in chile, they do this thing where all day long the family members can come and see the body and talk to the family, so we stayed in the chapel and helped with everything. It was a really good expirience because no one in the family was a member, not even her husband who we are teaching. So we were able to talk to them about the church and the plan of salvaction. It was cool, the bishop did a little devotional and us 4 missionaries sang like 5 hynms. So overall it went good and hopefully the family will take interest in the message we have and be led to the waters of baptism.

Besides that i am doing well. The other day we went over to this members house cause we were going to go visit this family with their daughter cause she has the same age as one of the investigators daugters. So we go over and the members show up. The dad gets out and so does the daughter and her 2 friends. So we all go inside and the dad says he has to go check on something outside... well me and my comp were freakin out cause we are in the house with 3 young girls. So we are all just sitting there very awkwardly when the member daughter says she needs to go change her cloths so she can leave with us to visit our investigators. So she leaves and now we are alone just me and my comp with 2 snakes... haha by this point we did not know what to do.

So we decided we should talk to them so it wouldnt be awkward. So we start talking and we have no clue what to talk about because we havent been alone with girls in like 2 years. So i was trying to think of any movies i knew or music or anything and i realized that i had nothing haha. It was so funny cause i havent listened to music or seen movies forever so i had no way to relacion myself to them. So what did we start talking about, the first vision haha. By the time we got done we had taught lesson 1 and commited them to pray... haha so all in all it went well. But i realized when i get home it is going to be so weird cause i am not going to know anything. I am sure i am going to go on dates and end up talking about their reading of the book of mormon or what they learned in Sunday school. I am way excited to we a awkward rm haha.  hey these are pics of me in the holiday of chile, with my old comps, elder lira (who goes home tomorrow), elder williams (who is assistant) and elder finter (who also is now assistant).

But ya life is good. Last night we had changes, but yesterday during the day my comp, elder finter got called by president jones. He was called as the new assistant cause the old one, elder lira is leaving. Haha that is my 4th comp who is asistant. President told me that i was called to train assistants haha. So i am staying here in pajaritos for another change and will recieve my new comp tomorrow. I am a little nervous but i am really excited. This is going to be a good change. I think i might die here in this ward cause i only have a change and a half left in the mission so it is likely that i die here. But it is a awesome sector with tons of people who are ready to listen. Thanx for everything fam. I love you all tons. Have a awesome week and keep on keeping.

basketball and dominoes pizza

Hey family this has been a really fast week. It is so crazy how time is flying by. Well we had a really good week. Nothing too exciting happened. It is just one of those weeks were you work really hard but not much happens.

Sorry this email is probably going to be short but I cant think of anything haha. Today we had our zone activity it was fun. I bought a basketball and we played basketball and soccer in a huge chapel and then ordered dominoes pizza after. It all turned out well and was really fun. Also this is the last week in this change, so either me or my comp are going to have changes next week. I am kinda nervous, I think that I will be taken out but we will have to wait and see. I don’t want to leave this ward, it is so awesome. We have been able to help a lot of people and there are awesome members here but only time will tell.

Also my converts have been writing me and everything with them is going well. My one convert, maricela is doing really well. She is getting ready to go through the temple. Also last week she gave her first talk in sacrament meeting. All my other converts are doing well. I love hearing from them, it makes me so happy.

Also this week one of my comps will go home, elder lira. I was with him about a year ago. He is my last senor comp that I have on the mission. He was able to go say goodbye to my old sector in maipu and he said that everyone there is doing really well.

Anyways, sorry this is short. I hope you guys have a awesome week. I am glad byu is doing well and I hope they can pull off a big win this week. You guys are so awesome, thanx for always writing me and letting me know what is goin on. I love you all so much you don’t even know. I cant wait to be able to see you all again in a little while. Have a good one.

I love you guys.

Have a awesome one.

chile´s soccer team is going to the world cup in africa

Hey family this has been another really good week on the mission. As you guys can see it is Tuesday and i am writting you. We changed pday because yesterday we had a service that we did as a zone. We went to this school and painted and pulled weeds and washed stuff. It was fun and a good way to become closer as a zone. I love doing service, it is just sweet to be able to help others physically just as much as spiritually.

So ya spring and summer have finally hit chile. Oh man i forgot how hott it gets here. The other day it got to 32 degrees celcias which is pretty hott. The thing is, it actually gets a lot hotter in utah but the difference is that here they dont have indoor conditioning nor do we have cars with air conditioning and stuff like that. Also in the summer at home we dont spend all day walking around in the heat. But it is all good i am doing really well and trying to drink lots of water. I am trying to get back into shape before i come home so i have given up pop and now all i buy is water. Also we have gone out running a couple days in the morning so i can loose my gut haha.

Well the other day chile´s soccer team played colombia and beat them. That means that now they are going to the world cup in africa. So as i have told you guys, soccer down here is huge so we were walking around in the street and there was no one outside and no one would let us in. So everytime chile scored we knew because in every house everyone started to scream and there was tons of noise. But finally they won and all of chile came running out in the street. There were so many people and everyone was screaming and running around all drunk... haha so we were just walking along trying not to die and all the sudden a group of young punks suround us and start jumping up and down and pushing us and all this crap. But nothing happened and we just kept on pushing till we broke through the group.

Also yesterday we had a family home evening with this awesome couple that we found. So we got with them into the house of a member and all the sudden we hear a alarm go off outside. Well that is usual but it wouldnt turn off so we go out to look and there is this really nice car in the middle of the street with the door open and the lights going off. We went over to see what happened and this kid said that it was stolen and that about 30 seconds after we went into the house 3 kids, a guy and 2 girls, came screaming around the corner and the car died and they left running away. The cool this is that the car had a anti-theif thing that would only let go like 200 meters before the car turns itself off and the doors lock. It was sweet and after that happened we went back inside and had our family home evening that went well.

Then this week we found this golden family that we have taught 2 times. It is a couple and they have 3 girls. We contacted the dad and he wanted us to come by. We went by and he told us how he wanted his girls to get closer to God and to be baptized so we have been teaching them and they love everything. We found out that they arent married but its all good we are going to try to get them married and then baptized so they can be a eternal family. They are so cool, i hope i can be around to see them get married.

Besides that everything here is good. Me and my comp are getting along really well and working hard. This week i got a book of mormon and the cd of the book of mormon in portueges. It is sweet cause i can basically understand and speak all of it. So i am trying to learn portueges before i get home. It is really simular to spanish so it should be pretty easy to learn. Well that is all that happened this week. I love you all tons. Have a awesome week.

I know that the gift of tongues exists

Hey family this was a really good week. Wow did it just fly by, it feels like i was writting you just just yesterday. Time is such a weird thing in the mission it seems to pass so slow yet it flys by so so fast. I look back at the time i have been in chile and it seems like i just got here and i dont know anything, where i am, what i am doing and even less spanish. But it is incredible to see how much i have grown. And it is fun to see that i can speak spanish. It is weird to think that i can speak a different language just by opening my mouth.

Yesterday we got into this house and we started talking to this lady that lives in arizona and is just visiting here. It was kinda trunky but we talked about arizona and utah. She has lived there for 25 years so she knows utah very well. It was just fun cause as we were talking we would talk in english and then all the sudden we would switch and start talking in spanish without even thinking about it. I know that the gift of tongues exists. I am so grateful to God for all the gifts that he has given me to be able to help His children.

Well the conference was incredible, i loved it so much. As you guys know they anounced a temple in conception chile. We were so excited when we heard that. It is going to be so awesome for the people here. Many faithful members have to drive very long distances to get here to santiago to go to the temple and so it will be a huge blessing for the people down south. The missionary work down there is just exploding so it will be a awesome way to help the work move foreward.

So there were a bunch of talks that i loved in confernce. As it always is, elder hollands talk was again my favorite. He just says what he knows and bares strong testimony of it. I love the way he talks and the power i feel when i hear him. Also i loved elder scott, elder erying, elder callisters (awesome powerful talk), elder ballard in priesthood session, elder uchtdorf, and elder chistoffersons. They were just awesome and i felt the spirit so strong. I have come to love and cherish and treasure the conference on the mission. It is so incredible to listen to the prophet and the lords other servants bear wittness of Him. I hope you can all take what you learned and apply it in your lives or the conference was all in vain. I made a list of my favorite quotes in conference and i want to share them with you all to refresh your memory. Hope you like them

Sorry for going on with all thoes quotes but i loved them i want you guys to remember them. They are so awesome and so true. These men are of God and no one who really listens to them can deny it. That last quote by elder Zeballos is the dad of one of my comps that i had in the mission, elder Zeballos haha. It was fun to listen to him.

Well it is good to hear from you all. I am glad you are doing well. I am doing well also, just working and trying to help the people of chile. I love you all tons and i love this gospel. It really is the only thing that can bring us true happiness. Keep on working and God will bless you. I know this church is true. I know God loves us and that He gave us His only begotton son. I love Jesus Christ so much. He is my Lord and Savior. He died for me personally and for every one of you. He just wants us to be happy and we will as we lose the natural man and accept His will. Have a awesome week.

really excited for general conference

Hey family sounds like you are all doing well. That makes me really happy. This week has been a good one for me. We are working hard and trying to help all the people that we are teaching to progress. Yesterday we had the baptizm of kevin and it went well. He is so awesome and so funny. He is going to be a awesome member in the church. He grandpa came to baptize him and it all went well. It was crazy just like it always is. Satan always tried to ruin the baptizms and the spirit but like always everything turned out well.

So we are teaching this lady named maria suzanna. I think i have already told you guys about her. She is so prepared. She stopped smoking, drinking alcohol and tea and coffee and is really excited for her baptism. She has a baptismal date for the 11th of october so be praying for her. This is the time when satan tries to attack the people so that they dont take this very important step in their lives. But it doesnt matter cause God is so much more powerful than him.

Also thanx to a game that we have as a zone, some other missionaries contacted this sweet couple and they happened to live in our sector. So we went to visit them and they are awesome. We have taught them like 3 times and they are golden. On the 3rd visit they said they want to be married in our church and asked us what they had to do to be baptized... haha it was such a miracle. Tonight we are going to have a family home evening (Noche de Hogar) with this sweet fam in our sector. The only problem is that the dad works in a mall on Sundays so it will be hard for him to atend. But pray for a miracle. We are looking for a different job that he can have so he can go to church on Sundays.

I am really excited for general conference. On the mission i have come to really apriciate the conference. It is so awesome, before the mission i just thought it was long and boring but here i have realized how powerful it really is. They are servents of the Lord and talk with Him. They know what He wants us to know and if we want to be happy we have to listen to their words. And not only the Sunday morning session but all of them. They are all so awesome and if we dont listen to all of them we are going to miss lots of important things that we need. So make sure to watch all of them and go into the conference with a question or something that you want to know, or need to feel. You will get exactly what you need.

Haha ya i loved how all of you wrote me and told me not to be trunky. Haha, dont worry i am fine, i am still working as hard as i can. I love the mission even though a lot of times it is very hard. It is so awesome and for these last 3 months i will continue to work with all my heart. I love you all tons and hope you have a awesome week. Keep on praying for me and for my investigators.

gave away olivia's book of mormon in english

Hey family hows it goin. Man i was pretty sad to hear that byu won but its all good, the world will go on. It sounds like everything at home is going well. Here all is good. Sorry this letter wont be too long it was a very long week. I dont think i have walked so much in all my mission. It was the week of the 18th which here is like the 4th of july and so everyone in all of chile was drunk. So it was really really hard to get into houses. But its all good.

I found out that my son, elder maldonado is training a new missionary already. I was so happy, that means that i now have a grandson haha. Oh ya, remember that book of mormon in english that you guys sent me from olivia. Well we gave it away to this guy who wants to learn more about the church and wants to practice his english. He is awesome and ill let ya know what happens. Besides that we had 4 people in the church this week and 3 people with baptizmal dates. We should be seeing some baptisms very soon. Well that is pretty much all that happened this week. I hope you all have a awesome week.

i dont have much time on internet

Hey family how is everything goin? Everything here is amazing. We have had another awesome week and i am loving life. We found this awesome lady who is named maria suzanna. She is so excited and has excepted everything that we have taught her. She wants to get baptized so bad so she will be baptized in 3 weeks. We are excited for her. Also kevin was sick all this week so he will be baptized next week. He is doing well and is excited but will have to wait. Dago, the kid that me and elder williams found got baptized on Saturday, he is so awesome. He already wants to come out to visit people with us. He is sharing with his family and his friends and just has a strong testimony. Angelo was not able to have his baptizmal interview this past Sunday so he will be interviewed and baptized up in antofagasta which is in the top area of chile. It was really sad to see him go but its all good. It doesnt matter where he gets baptized just that he does.

Ya sorry this isnt going to be very long cause this has been a crazy week and i dont have much time on internet sorry. We are doing well here, me and my comp. We are working hard and seeing tons of miracles. We found this young couple who are so so nice and they have a little baby boy. They had already gone to church a couple time and want to come back and get to know it better. They also are not married but they want to be, they are just trying to find what church they want to be married in... Sweet, the only problem is that the husband works almost every Sunday so we are going to see what we can do. Ya well i am glad byu keeps on winning and hopefully they will destroy florida st. Next week. I love you all tons. Have a great week.

We didn't have any rocks thrown at us

Hey family how is life goin? Here in chile life is awesome as always. I had a really good week. I feel like now at the end of my mission i really know how to work hard and eficiently and me and my comp we are taking out the trash here. We have found a lot of people who are progressing and who are just awesome. I wish i would have known how to work like this at the beginning of my mission but its all good, we all have to learn little by little.

But ya this week was a lot more not crazy haha. We didnt have any rocks thrown at us so that was good. On the bad news side, this week is the 11th of sept. If you guys remember what happened last year, everyone is chile goes crazy and starts throwing stuff and shooting and burning things. So the 11th we go inside at like 4 in the afternoon and chill out. So that is going to be fun haha. Dont worry we will be fine. I figued out that our sector is one the the richest sectors in all our mission. Last year was a lot more crazy, we lived in one of the most getto sectors in the mission. So i will let you guys know what happens next week.

So today kevin and angelo are going to have their bapt interviews. We got bad news this past week. Angelo told us that he is going to move to the north for a couple months. So we are going to see if he is ready to be baptized right now or if he is going to wait another week and get baptized in the north. I was kinda sad when i found that out but it doesnt matter where he gets baptized, the important thing is that he gets baptized. But we will see what happens today in his interview. He is so awesome and so prepared. I love the mission.

Also just to let you guys know, dago, the kid that me and elder williams found, passed his baptizmal interview yesterday and he is going to be baptized this week as well.

Ok so you guys dont understand how happy i was when i heard that BYU won. That totally made my day. I knew they would and i hope that they dont do what they did last year. Do really good then end up the season by sucking haha. No i think they will do well this year and i am really sad i wont be able to see the season but i know that i am suppost to be here in chile and i wouldnt give it up for anything. And there are more important things in life than BYU football, not very many but there are a couple haha.

Love you all tons. Keep on working and doing your thing. Have a awesome week and pray for angelo. Thanx for always writting me and supporting me. I love getting the pics of you guys. Dont worry im not too trunky haha i only get trunky on pdays. Ill keep working till the end.

Wars have been started thanx to soccer games

Hey family so this has been one crazy week. Pretty much all of it ended up happening on the weekend and dont freak out no one got hurt. God is protecting us i have a huge testimony of that. Anyways, here we go...

Before i start i just want to give you a little background on soccer down here in south america. It is one of the biggest things that happens. Wars have been started thanx to soccer games. Soccer is hard core down here. So on Saturday we had to go to a different church to do an activity. So we hop on the bus that takes us there. After we had gotten on we looked to the back and there were a bunch of fans going to a soccer game. The 2 teams that were playing are colo-colo and the U. Basically here it would be like byu and utah playing against each other. So the fans on the back are all drinking and yelling and singing all the way down the road. All the sudden this girl that was standing up next to me ducks down. I thought, that is weird, why is she ducking down? So i decide i will follow her example, i have no clue why. All the sudden rocks come flying through the windows and there are people screaming and glass flying everywhere. What happened was the opposing team somehow knew that these guys were on the bus and had planned to start throwing rocks at them. But they planned it out so well that we were driving down a road going like 45 mile an hour and every 4 or 5 seconds a rock would come flying through a window. Finally they stopped and we drove on for about 5 mins where the bus was stopped by a line of cops.

So once the drunk fans in the back realized that the cops were stopping us, they started mixing in with the crowd. The cops kept everyone on the bus cause they were waiting for backup. Thats when me and my comp felt this guy behind us playing around with our bags. We realized that he had some kind of drug in his hand and he was trying to put it in our bags. We put our bags where he couldnt get to them. The backup still hadnt gotten there and people started getting anxious. So they tried getting off and the cops would tell them to get back on and if they didnt they would hit them with these metal poles they had. We were late to the activity and so i hopped off the bus (praying that they wouldnt hit me with some pole) and asked him if it was ok if me and the other 3 missionaries could get off. He said that we could. I took off my bag to let him look through it and he said, “no dont worry about it, your mormon.” Haha so we just walked away and got on a different bus. It was a little scary but a lot of fun. No one got hurt besided the drunk guys that tried to get off the bus and wouldnt get back on.

But ya then later that night me and my comp were walking along the sidewalk. There was a dog against the fence on one side and a car on the other side. So my comp tries to sneak throught and as he almost made it, the dog jumped and bit him in the butt. Haha so we were late for a appointment and so we got there and he went to the bathroom. He came back out and told me that his butt was all bloody... But as good missionaries do, we finished up the lesson and kept on working till the day was over. Haha he will be fine, he still hasnt been foming out the mouth so i guess he is good.

My other comp, elder acevedo from el salvador, we were in a trio, was taking out and put with someone else. It was kinda weird just being with one other person. We were really used to having a lot of people and now we feel really lonely haha. But we are doing well and having a lot of fun.

Sunday was really awesome. Kevin and angelo went to church. We had ward conference and we had more members in the church than i have had any other time in my mission. There were 227 people, which is really big for a chilean ward. It was awesome. The only thing that sucked is that angelo went to church all nicely dressed up and stuff. He had a nice suit on and black shoes and a black shirt. And it just happens that the stake president says that we should have respect for the savior and wear white shirts to church and that black shirts are unexceplable... Oh man i was so mad, angelo looks at me and asks me what that is all about. It is a miracle that he came dressed nicely, cause it is hard in chile for people to do that. Then when the stake president said that it like killed him. He thought that he was a sinned and that he was doing tons of things wrong. We had taught him about the word of wisdom a couple days before and he smokes and drinks. Then the Sunday before this Sunday someone said that any music besides the mormon tabernacle choir is of the devil. Then this guy was making fun of him, calling him an investigator and all this crap. It is so hard to work when the members are throwing our investigators out. So i hope everything turns out well with him. Just make sure if anyone comes to church who isnt a member or is less active dont say anything. They dont need our comments, they need our support and love.

Well that has been my week. On top of that i have been sick all week. I got a sty in my eye, that wasnt fun. I walked around for 2 days in black sunglasses and everyone was calling me a CIA agent. Haha that was funny. Also i have had a cough, sore throught, runny nose and all that fun stuff. Also my neck and back hurts me. Haha i think i am just really old in the mission and just having problems. Oh well i will just keep fighting through it and come home in a wheel chair. I love you all tons. Thanx for everything you do and have a great week. Cheer really loud for me in the BYU game.

all the sudden i hear “elder hall??”

Hey fam this has been a good week like always. It was fun to hear how you guys got to watch the temple be dedicated. One thing on the mission that i dont like is that we only get to go to the temple like 3 or 4 times tops in 2 years. It feels like something is missing for sure. But i am excited to come back and be able to go to like 10 temples in like 1 hour. I would really like to go through the salt lake temple when i get back, i have never been inside and i would love to. Maybe when i get back we can all go and chill out there, that would be awesome.

Anyways, life here in chile is good. I have a huge miracle happen the other day. We had had a very hard day and we had walked around basically all day and not been able to get into any houses and i was really tired and sad. So on the way home my comp had to go buy something from the supermarket. So we went in and got it and all the sudden i hear “elder hall??” i turn around and what do you know it is one of my coverts from another sector. Her name is mariela. She got baptized in villa sur almost a year ago exactly. I couldnt believe it, it made me so so happy to see her. She told me that her daughter who is 8 years old will be baptized in 2 week and that she is getting ready to enter the temple and recieve her endowments. It was awesome!!! She said that she always goes to church and is reading and praying with her mom who isnt a member. It was a tender mercy of the lord. It is days like that when everything goes wrong and them the lord just throws in something small to show us that he does care about us and love us. I was so thankful to see her. I love the mission!!!

So yesterday was a good day at church. Kevin came to church and so did this other young man named angelo. I told you guys about him last week, he is awesome. We loved church and said that he feels it is right to join it. So we put a baptizmal date with him for the 12th of september. He is so prepared and will be a awesome member of the church. Also 2 other investigators that we are teaching came. We also found this girl that got baptized and never went back and she came to church as well. It is fun to see all these people we are working with come back or go to church. It makes me feel like i am really helping people. There is nothing better in the world then to be sitting in church and see a less active member or a investigator come through the church doors, i love it.

Well yesterday in church we learned about what type of music we should listen to. We read the scripture that is in d and c in the seccion 26 or 27 i´m not sure. But it says that the song of the rightchous is a prayer to God and that made me start thinking and i came up with a saying that i really like. “Every song is a prayer, be good or bad. But the difference between the two is who we are praying to...” I like it cause there are good and bad songs and every one of them are prayers. But sometimes we are singing to satan instead of Heavenly Father. We always need to be carefull about what we listen to. Satan is constantly attacking us and little by little we get closer and closer to his line without even noticing. Bad songs that we would have never listen to at first seem better and better. It is crazy how satan nulifies us into thinking little by little that things are good. We always have to stay as far away from his line as possible to he has no power over us. So be carefull on what kind of music you all listen to. And think about who is the author of the music. Is it from God or Satan?? Well i love you all tons. Hope you have a great week. Keep up the faith.

“trunky papers" - “date of liberation” - 30th of December

Hey fam well this week has been really good. We found this awesome kid named angelo who is so cool. We went into his house and just did a prayer the first time and got to know him. Then we left him with a pamflet of lesson 2 which is the plan of salvacion. We went back another day and he had read all of it and gave us a summery of it better than what i could do. He is so prepared and said this Sunday he is going to go to church. Tonight we are going to have a family home evening with him in the house of another member. It is going to be sweet!!!

Besides that, kevin, the kid with a baptizmal date went to church and is really progressing well. This last week him and his mom finished 1st nephi and they are half way through 2nd nephi. I can feel the spirit really strongly when we teach them. They are awesome and are going to be good members.

Also the young man that we found with elder williams, that was a miracle, went to church yesterday. We were in sacrement meeting and he didnt show up. Then all the sudden we look over and he is outside waving to us. It was so awesome. What had happened is the member that was going to go pick him up decided to go to a different ward yesterday so this young man named dago, had to walk like a mile and a half to get to church and thats why he got there late. Haha life in the mission is good.

Well as you guys probably already know, i got some papers that in the mission are called “trunky papers.” In the papers in asks all kinds of questions like who is my stake president and bishop. What are their numbers and all that crap. Then at the bottom it says “date of liberation” haha which is the 30th of december. So that means i will be home right in time for the party on new years eve. It made me kinda trunky but i am good now. I just keep working and try not to think about it. But it is hard cause every time my comps see a plane, they say “oh theres you in 4 months...” haha then i hit them. But life is good. It was fun to see the pics that you guys sent me. All of you look so different it is crazy. But thanx for everything you do, expecially mom and dad. Thanx for signing me up for school and all that stuff. I still havent gotten the papers but i think i will get them this wensday. I talked to the president and he said that he can fax it to byu or something like that. But how will you guys know when it gets there??? I hope i get into byu but if not, its all good. The Lord will have me go where i need to.

Anyways i love you all tons, you already know it. Make sure you guys are doing the little things that will bring you happiness like spending time with the fam, serving others and cumpleting with your church callings. Never stop reading the scriptures or praying. If you do you will have tons of problems. That doesnt mean that you wont have problems, it just means you will have God´s help through the problems. Well have a good one.

Love you guys.

And ya his name is elder redhair, crazy!!!

Haha well this week has been insane. It has been really good but really hard. I love the mission cause it helps a person progress so much. Anyways, it sounds like everything at home is crazy. I love you all so much i hope you guys know that. Ok well let me tell you about my week.

First off i got my new comp, elder finter. Dad he told me that his dad served in london the same time that you did so if you know a elder finter it is probably his dad. Anyways he is cool, he is from arizona. He is a good missionary, his personality is a lot different than mine but we get along well. So i picked him up on Tuesday. Wendsay 2 new missionaries got to our house. Their names are elder byers and elder redhair. Elder byers is from utah, ogden. Elder redhair is from arizona. He looks like a latin, i believe he has indian blood in him. Anyways he is new from the mtc but speaks very well. And ya his name is redhair, crazy!!! Everyone always makes fun of me when they find out what it means. Gotta love it.

So right now i am helping them get to know their sector cause that is when me and elder williams worked for the 3 weeks we were together. I got kicked out of my sector so basically i am in a whitewash trying to get to know everyone. It is hard but i like it. So we are just trying to get to know all the members on our side and we are trying to get to know a lot of new people and help them. We found a menos active family and we are helping them back to church. They have a son named kevin who is 9 years old so he will be baptized in september.

Then on Thursday the assistance called us and told us that we are going to be in a trio. So we went to pick up another missionary whos name is elder acevedo. He is a cool guy, hes from el salvador. So we are 5 new missionaries in one little house trying to figure everything out. That is why it is crazy but it is fun.

Anyways i found out when elder acevedo that a family of 6 got baptized in one of my other sectors. It was so cool cause it was a family that me and one of my comps found. And it was during a time in my mission when i didnt think i was doing anything and i wasnt making a difference in the mission. We are always making a difference is we are trying our best to complete with the lord commandments.

Well i love you guys so much. I hope you know that. Have a awesome week. Keep on praying for me and helping all thoes around you. The world is terrible and the sons and daughters of god need all the help they can get.

Love
